Reuven Feuerstein born in Romania in 1921 to Jewish parents. He spent his childhood and adolescence in Bucharest.
Then he began to teach in a school for children of deportees to Auschwitz and in contact with these children, whose cognitive development is strongly affected by serious psychological trauma, the couple's interest in the psychology of learning.

The Feuerstein method is based on three fundamental concepts:
- the holistic conception of the individual, seen in its entirety;
- the theory of structural cognitive modifiability, or the belief that in every age and situation, the individual is changed on the cognitive level, that every individual is a willingness to turn this resource is still latent
- mediated learning experience, that is the type of relationship through modificabiltà which can be induced.

The method focuses on listening, attention to individual knowledge and different learning styles, emphasizes reflection on mental processes rather than content delivery.
